SEZ Cross Country

We had a very successful day last Thursday, 7 August, at the South Eastern Zone Cross Country event. The 40 students showcased incredible determination and spirit, making it a truly memorable day!

The weather was far from ideal, with muddy and damp ground adding an extra challenge to the course, but the atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as students from various schools gathered to compete. Our contingent of runners demonstrated great resilience as they tackled the challenging conditions.

In the Year 7 Girls event, our top four students achieved remarkable placements, with Charlotte H coming in 2nd , Thais H in 4th, Eloise C in 7th, and Jasmine A in 12th. The Year 7 Boys also showed incredible strength, with Ben K coming in 2nd place, Jace Y in 6th, Flynn F in 8th, and Max B in 15th place.

Our Year 8 Girls displayed exceptional talent, highlighted by Olivia S who clinched 1st place with an impressive 20-second lead! Harmanjeet K and Jade L also secured strong finishes at 15th and 16th. The Year 8 Boys category saw many of our students performing brilliantly, with Toby M placing 2nd, Mohammed K in 10th, Jayson Z in 11th, Carter L in 12th, and Harrison B in 14th.

The excitement didn't stop there! In the highly anticipated team event, Somerville truly shone! We secured 1st place in both the Year 7 Girls and Year 7 Boys categories, and also took 1st place in the Year 8 Boys event! Our Year 8 Girls team fought hard, achieving a commendable 3rd place. This incredible collective effort means we are now taking a fantastic 25 students through to the Auckland Championships! We couldn't be prouder of this outstanding achievement.
