Auckland Champs Rugby U45s

The Somerville U45kg rugby team automatically qualified for Auckland Champs and had an excellent day at the tournament, held at the Marist Rugby Football Club on Monday 23 June.

With five teams in the pool, the boys faced tough competition against Otahuhu Intermediate, Kowhai, East Counties, and Glen Eden. The team’s results were as follows:

• vs Otahuhu Intermediate: won 24 – 5

• vs East Counties: won 12 – 10

• vs Kowhai: won 22 – 5

• vs Glen Eden: lost 7 – 22

The boys displayed excellent teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the day. We also had fantastic support from our parent community — a big thank you to our awesome dads: Jared Hutcheson, for coaching and preparing the team in the lead-up to the tournament, and Andrew Bell, for his coaching and mentoring on the day.

Well done to all the players for a strong performance at the Auckland Champs, where we finished 2nd overall!
