TOI Wearable Arts

This term, 33 Somerville Intermediate students took part in the TOI Wearable Arts Show at the Aotea Centre — a vibrant, sold-out event featuring 218 garments from 31 schools across the country. TOI, meaning Art in te reo Māori, is run in collaboration with World of WearableArt (WOW) and challenges students to take art off the wall and bring it to life on the human form.

Our students worked individually or in groups for over a term to design imaginative wearable art garments that told powerful stories. All 14 Somerville groups impressed with their creativity, and six were recognised for technical awards — a fantastic achievement!

Beyond the runway, students engaged in workshops, met WOW mentors and designers, and experienced the excitement of a professional photoshoot and stage performance. Congratulations to every participant and model for their creativity, courage, and collaboration.
