East Auckland Interschool Intermediate School Chess

On Thursday 29 May, Somerville Intermediate had the honour of hosting the East Auckland Interschool Intermediate Chess competition. With 24 teams from across East Auckland taking part, the atmosphere was vibrant and competitive.

Somerville entered seven teams into the event, and we are incredibly proud of the effort, teamwork, and resilience shown by every student who represented our school. The tournament was a fantastic opportunity for our players to challenge themselves, support one another, and demonstrate their growth mindset and sportsmanship throughout the day.

A special congratulations goes to Somerville Team A, who performed outstandingly to finish 1st place overall. They qualified for the National Finals at Christchurch Boys High School in September. A special mention goes to Oscar C who won all of the six rounds played.
