School Cross Country
Third time lucky! After two postponements due to rain and poor weather, the sun finally made an appearance on Tuesday 30 June, providing perfect conditions for our annual Somerville School Cross Country.
Excitement was in the air as students gathered on the bottom school field, ready to take on the challenging 3km course. As the starter's signal sounded, runners burst from the start line in a flurry of energy and determination. The Year 8 girls led the way, followed by the Year 8 boys, before the Year 7 girls and boys wrapped up a fantastic afternoon of racing.
Every race was fiercely contested, with students digging deep, encouraging one another, and pushing themselves all the way to the finish line. There were some outstanding performances and impressive finishing times, but it was the resilience, perseverance, and positive spirit shown by every runner that made the day such a success.
A huge thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers, Amy Hillerby and Maddy Powell, for expertly managing the timekeeping throughout the day, and to our staff for marshalling the course and ensuring everyone stayed safe and supported.
Congratulations to every student who embraced the challenge of the 3km course. You represented yourselves and Somerville School with pride.
We also congratulate the top 10 finishers in each race, who have earned the opportunity to represent Somerville School at the South Eastern Zone Cross Country Championships next term. We wish them every success at the next level of competition.
