Auckland Champs Rugby League

On Tuesday 22 September, our Somerville Intermediate U55kg Rugby League team competed at the Auckland Championships at Bruce Pulman Park in Takanini.

The boys faced some tough competition throughout the day. We lost our opening game against a very tough and well-drilled Glen Eden team. In our second pool game, the boys showed great determination to overcome a strong Finlayson team in a hard-fought match. They then finished the pool games strongly, with a convincing win over an aggressive team from Kedgley Intermediate.

In the semi-final, we faced Manurewa, the top team from Pool B. The boys battled hard but were beaten by a very strong team. In the final game for 3rd and 4th place against Murrays Bay, we played out a draw. Based on points differential, Somerville finished 4th overall in the Auckland Championships.

Throughout the tournament, the boys displayed skill, determination, courage and excellent sportsmanship. They represented Somerville Intermediate with pride. Well done, boys!
