Totara Sports Camp

What a week it was at Totara Sports Camp!

Our students arrived ready for a big week of sport, competition and plenty of fun. With early starts, freezing mornings, long days and games running from 9.00am through to the evening, they certainly had to dig deep at times. Despite a tough week with illness affecting a number of students and some having to head home early, the group showed fantastic resilience and pulled together to support one another.

On the sporting front, we had plenty to celebrate, participating in volleyball, basketball, soccer, hockey, tag and touch rugby, longball, handball, as well as chess, darts, draughts, mini golf, frisbee golf, archery, airgun shooting, bowls, petanque, croquet, rock climbing, swimming, triathlon and cage soccer! Our teams and individuals made an impressive seven semi-finals, with some outstanding results across the week. We came away as champions in Chess and Frisbee Golf, while also finishing runners-up in Hole in One Golf, Table Tennis, Shooting and Mixed Soccer. There were plenty of other strong performances and some very close contests along the way.

A highlight away from the competition was being awarded the Quality Living prize. This was a fantastic reflection of the way our students represented Somerville – showing teamwork, positive attitudes, resilience and support for one another, even when things weren't always going their way. It was particularly pleasing to see students looking out for each other during a challenging week.

There was, of course, plenty of fun outside of the sport too! Our final day gave everyone the chance to let their hair down with some hydroslide action, plenty of laughs and a birthday celebration to finish things off. After such a full-on week, it was a well-earned chance to relax and enjoy being together.

A huge thank you to all of our students for giving the camp their absolute best and for representing Somerville so positively. They should be incredibly proud of how they handled a challenging week.

A massive thank you also goes to our wonderful parent helpers, Jen and Peter, and to Gary, for their support throughout the camp. And a very special thank you to Arron and Anna, who made the trip down to collect some students who were unwell, and get them safely home. Your support was hugely appreciated.

It was certainly a week of highs and lows, but ultimately a fantastic camp filled with great sport, great students, plenty of laughs and some brilliant memories.

Well done, Somerville – what a team!
