SEZ Cross Country
It was a very overcast and muddy day when we travelled to Barry Curtis Park for the South Eastern Zone Cross Country event. The runners were a little nervous but also excited.
First up were the Year 7 girls - Annabelle came in 5th, followed by Sofia in 7th, Mya in 8th, and Annie in 9th. The girls did so well; they all finished in the top 25 and they managed to come second in the teams category, with BBI in first place.
The Year 7 Boys ran next and it was a very competitive category this year. Reuben came in 13th place, followed by Leo in 14th and then Bucky in 18th place. They put in a great effort and supported each other as they finished..
The next group to run were the Year 8 Girls, and all four of them finished in the top 10, which means they all qualified for Auckland Champs! Charlotte came in 4th, Lané came in 6th, Thaïs came in 8th, and Alina 10th.
Our final category was the Year 8 boys, and there was a lot of pressure, with all of the previous groups doing so well. They didn’t disappoint, with Ben coming in 1st, and Jace close on his heels in 2nd place. Casey and Luca were not far behind in 6th and 7th, and Flynn came in 11th. The boys also did extremely well, with all of them finishing in the top 30. They did so well that they also won the teams category.
Overall the runners had a great day and were very patient and showed good sportsmanship. 19 of them have qualified to go to Auckland Champs on 28th August. They were very supportive of each other. The year 8 boys even went out onto the side of the course to cheer others on.
Thanks to Shelley Pietersen, and Eileen Potgeiter for the organisation and help on the day.
