SEZ Football

Year 7 Girls

On a beautiful Tuesday morning [19th May], the Year 7 SEZ Girls Football team travelled to Lloyd Elsmore Park.  With great anticipation [and nervous energy] the girls faced a tough first game against Sir Edmund Hillary College - ultimately we triumphed!

Our second game was a very competitive match against BBI and we ended up drawing this match.  Our final pool match was against Howick Intermediate and this resulted in a comfortable win.  Based on these results we ended up top of our pool and as such we were drawn against Farm Cove in a semi-final.

We were really fired up for this game and played some of the best football of the tournament and triumphed comfortably.  This result meant we had made the final!  St Kents were waiting for us and we were determined to extend our unbeaten run - which we did!  From running out for our first game to becoming SEZ champions - what a day!

I am so proud of every player, proud of the way they played, proud of the way they dug deep, but mostly proud of the way they conducted themselves.  Girls, you are amazing ambassadors for our school.  I want to thank all the parents who came and supported the team , especially Melinda MacIntyre who helped out with transport.  Auckland Champs, here we come!

Year 7 Boys

The Year 7 boys football team has qualified for the Auckland Championship after a spectacular, undefeated run at the South Eastern Zone tournament.

The team started strong, cruising to a convincing 6–2 opening victory against Elim Christian College. They maintained this dominant momentum in their second match, shutting out Pakuranga Intermediate 5–0. The final pool game delivered high drama, as the boys secured a thrilling 1–0 win over Redoubt North by scoring the decisive goal in the final minute of play.

In the knockout stages, the team delivered a composed performance to beat Farm Cove Intermediate 2–0 in the semi-final. They saved some of their best football for the grand final, playing an outstanding match to defeat Bucklands Beach Intermediate 3–1. A massive thank you to all the parent supporters who cheered the team on throughout the day!

Year 8 Girls

The Year 8 Girls Football team delivered an outstanding performance at the SEZ Tournament, finishing an impressive 2nd overall after a fantastic day of football.

The girls showed excellent teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. They dominated their pool games, scoring an incredible 11 goals while not conceding a single goal, a testament to both their strong attacking play and solid defence.

After progressing to the winners’ pool, the team faced BBI and secured a convincing 4–0 victory, earning their place in the final.

In the final match, the girls came up against a very strong and well-structured St Kents side. Although the result did not go their way, the team displayed great resilience, determination, and never gave up, finishing the tournament as runners-up.

A huge thank you goes to parent coach Anmol Shankar for his coaching and support throughout the day, and to Mrs Pietersen for her organisation and assistance as team manager. Thank you also to Jenna Darby for helping with transport, and to all the parents for their ongoing support.

Congratulations to all members of the Year 8 Girls Football team on a fantastic achievement!
