Gymnastics Festival

On Wednesday 23 July, 41 Somerville Intermediate students travelled to Howick Gymnastics for the annual East Auckland Gymnastics Festival and we are extremely grateful to the parents Matt Q, Kerryn W, Katie U, Joy W, Jo W, Claire H, Elizabeth S and Belinda M for their help with transport. Thanks also to Kate W, Abby v B and Lara v B for coming as extra coaches and supporters.

The emphasis was on fun and perhaps giving something new a try; indeed, some of the participants had never taken part in any form of gymnastics before.

Ribbons were awarded on the basis of the competitor’s average score out of 10, across three apparatus - the girls performed on the vault, beam and floor and the boys demonstrated their skills on the vault, bar and floor. During a bye round, the students also had an opportunity to enjoy some of the equipment that is in place at Howick Gymnastics Club.

The results were outstanding, with all gymnasts receiving either a gold, silver or bronze ribbon.
