Auckland Champs Futsal
On Monday 17 August, the Somerville Boys’ Futsal Team headed to the Auckland Champs, ready for an exciting and challenging day of competition. Knowing they would be facing some of the best teams from across Auckland, the boys arrived at school on Monday morning with a positive mindset and were ready to give it their all.
Our first game was against Saint Kentigern Remuera, who had finished first in their zone. The boys played with plenty of heart and determination but fell short, losing 5–2. After a well-earned break, the team reflected on what they could improve before heading into their final group-stage game against Pasadena, which was a must-win match. Unfortunately, the game didn't go our way, but the boys continued to give their all and put up a strong fight against a team that would eventually finish as runners-up at the Auckland Champs.
For our final game of the day, we once again faced Farm Cove Intermediate, a familiar opponent from the SEZ competition. The boys finished the tournament on a high, putting in a strong performance to secure a convincing 3–1 victory.
Although the results in our first two games weren't what we had hoped for, the tournament was a fantastic opportunity for the boys to challenge themselves against some of Auckland's best teams. They represented Somerville with determination, resilience, and a positive attitude, making the day a memorable experience for everyone involved.
A big thank you to Mr Gee for coaching and supporting the team, and to all the parents who came along and supported the boys throughout the day.
