SEZ Debating

Earlier this term, the Somerville debating team travelled to Howick Intermediate and participated in the SEZ debating competition. The team had been preparing for the debate since Term 2.

There were several schools represented at this event, with some interesting topics - "Voting should be made compulsory", "Cash is no longer needed", and in the final between Bucklands Beach Intermediate and Farm Cove, "People can't lie in this world".

The Somerville Intermediate debating team competed against Howick Intermediate. The complete team consisted of Emilie P, Danica M, Enney P, Jeremy L, Zoe K, Caleb McL, Annie L and Wency S. Emilie was our first speaker and leader, Danica M our second speaker, and Enney P, our final speaker on the negating team with the topic, “Children Under 16 Should Not Be Allowed to Make Money as Content Creators or Social Influencers.” The team did exceptionally well and had strong rebuttals and points. Unfortunately, Howick Intermediate won this debate, but our team did an amazing job and represented our school with pride.

A huge thank you to Ms Conolly for helping the team prepare and deliver an awesome debate. A special thanks to Mr Fort for transporting the team to Howick Intermediate, and back to school.

It was a fun day and a great experience for the team!
