Boys

Our Somerville Intermediate touch rugby boys had an outstanding run at their recent tournament, playing seven games in total.

After five strong pool matches, they secured a spot in the semi-finals, where they battled hard to take a narrow 5–4 win against Ferguson. 

The team then faced St Kents in a thrilling final that ended in a 4–4 draw, leading to a dramatic drop-off: where one player leaves the field every minute until the deciding try. We won with a try after first drop off!!

Despite the intense finish, the boys showed incredible skill, teamwork, and heart. We’re so proud of their effort and sportsmanship!

Auckland Champs

Somerville Intermediate boys represented proudly at the Auckland Championship, showing outstanding teamwork and determination throughout the day. 

The team had two draws and a win in the pool rounds, securing their spot in the semi-finals against Dilworth, where they went down in a close 2–1 match. In the finals, they faced St Peter’s in an intense game that ended 3–3. The boys team finished the day tied 3rd place with St Peter’s.

It was an all-round amazing day filled with great weather, strong performances, and excellent sportsmanship from all the boys. A fantastic effort by the entire team!

Girls

Mixed

We had an incredible team of 5 boys and 5 girls who represented Somerville Intermediate at the SEZ Mixed Touch Rugby Tournament on Friday 7th November, at Lloyd Elsmore. James F, Blake U, Caelen M, Luke S, Lani N, Maskeen S, Sofia H, Thais H, Cilize V and Casey L.

It was a scorching day and there was so much skill and talent out of the fields. We, as a team, faced some tough competition throughout the day which landed us in 6th place overall, but we are beyond proud of how our team represented our school both on and off the field. Incredible sportsmanship, encouragement and lots of laughter. Overall, it was a fantastic day where we could celebrate the game of touch. Very proud of all our students who played. Well done team!
