Girls
Our girls’ volleyball team had an impressive showing at this year’s South Eastern Zone Volleyball competition, competing against 13 other schools. In the pool games, they won three matches and lost three, all of which were closely contested. Their determination saw them reach the semi-finals, where they narrowly missed out by just one point. Showing great resilience, they bounced back to play the 7th/8th place final and won both sets convincingly. A fantastic effort from the team – well done!
Boys
On Friday 10 October, the Somerville boys’ volleyball squad travelled to Bruce Pulman Park to compete in the 2025 South Eastern Zone volleyball competition. 13 teams competed in the tournament.
At the end of pool play we had losses to Sir Edmund Hilary, Ferguson Intermediate, and Pakuranga Intermediate, and wins against Mission Heights and Sancta Maria. This placed us 5th in our pool of 6.
Our next game was against Elim Christian College, which we won, meaning we would play against Farm Cove to decide 9th and 10th place. This game saw us win 2 - 1 which secured us 9th place overall.
Our boys showed true fighting spirit, terrific sportsmanship and were a credit to the school. The 2025 Boys’ squad comprised; Kallias H, Lani N, Jace Y, Fale N, Hudson S, Pedro P, Jackson F, Eason C, Rico H and Ryotaro Y.
