SEZ Swimming

The top 3 swimmers from each year level, selected from our school swimming sports, represented the Somerville Intermediate Swimming team at the South Eastern Zone competition on Wednesday 13 March. We had a team of 24 swimmers, with all students competing well in their events. The squad managed to place in several of the heats. Of particular merit, are the following swimmer’s results from the finals:

Year 7 Girls
Celestine Z shone in all her events achieving 2nd place in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke,100m Freestyle and an impressive 3rd place in the open Butterfly.

Year 7 Boys
Leo C: 3rd place in the 50m Backstroke, 4th in 50m Breastroke and 6th in the 100m Freestyle. 
Lucas W: 6th place 50m Backstroke
Leo W: 5th in the 50m Breastroke
Edward W: 6th in 50m Breastroke 

Year 8 Girls
Ashley L: 2nd place in 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle. 
Miya W: 3rd place in the 50m Freestyle, 5th in 50m Backstroke and 4th in 100m Freestyle.

Year 8 Boys
Kento W achieved an impressive 1st place in the 50m Open Butterfly, and 3rd place in 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle. He also qualified for the Breastroke final, taking 5th place. 

In addition to these individual performances, our relay squads also competed exceptionally well.

We wish Celestine Z, Leo C, Ashley L, Miya W and Kento W all the best at the Auckland Champs to be held on Wednesday 20 March.
