The Somerville Garden Club have been working really hard. In Term 1, we planted some seeds in egg cartons which we nurtured and watched them grow.
Kawhe Hui, our student-led cafe is a MEETING CAFE where the students, staff and parents in our Somerville School community can MEET-EAT-RELAX over lunch.
In Week 5, Term 1 our Whānau Prefects (32 students) were involved in the first part of our 2023 Leadership Camp.
On Monday 1st May, Somerville Intermediate School students participated in the Chess Power Auckland East Cluster Tournament, held on campus.
On Wednesday 3 May, eight students competed at the morning Auckland heat for the annual Kids’ Lit Quiz, held at St Cuthbert’s College.
‘To overcome challenges and go beyond your comfort zone’, are two of the many reasons Somerville Intermediate School offers the Year 7 students a four day residential camp, as part of their EOTC programme. Well this year’s camps certainly achieved that and more!
Year 7 Ruapehu whānau and Rooms 29 and 30, Kawarau whanau, embarked on their journey across to Motutapu Island, for the first of our Year 7 four day camps on Monday 27 March. They were fortunate to have great weather throughout their time on Motutapu.
Over the past six weeks, we have had 17 students racing around on a Tuesday afternoon, with map in hand, as they competed in the Auckland School Orienteering Sprint Series.
Our School Athletics Day was held at Pakuranga Athletics Club, Lloyd Elsmore Park on Tuesday 21 March.
Many thanks to all the students and parents/caregivers who joined us at the ANZAC Day celebrations at Stockade Hill in Howick on Tuesday 25 April.
On Wednesday 15 March, the Somerville Intermediate Swimming team competed at the South Eastern Zone swimming competition. Somerville Intermediate had a team of 26 swimmers, with all students competing well in their events. The squad managed to place in several of the heats.
The Somerville Athletics Day held at the Pakuranga Athletics Club on Tuesday 21 March, started out warm and overcast. The track and field events were an opportunity for all the students to compete in, either competitive or non-competitive events, earning participation points for their whānau.
On Tuesday 28 March, Somerville Intermediate's Tag Rugby team headed out to Ngati Otara Park. We played hard and fair and came away with several great wins.
On Sunday 26 March, 21 Somerville students woke up bright and early to participate in the Howick Rotary Fun Run and Walk. It was a brisk but clear morning and the students were very excited to get going.
Thank you to all those families who came along to support our family picnic on Friday 3 March, which has become a Somerville tradition.
After three years of not being able to hold our School Swimming Sports, and after the unexpected shaky start of a school year with Cyclone Gabrielle, we were incredibly blessed with a beautiful sunny day on Friday 17 February, for our Year 7 Swimming Sports.
