Uniform


A school uniform helps students identify with their school and assists with the development of a corporate spirit. It also projects a positive image and develops pride in personal presentation.

  • A clear description of all uniform items is available at John Russell

  • Naming of all items of uniform clothing is very important. 
  • All staff have clear guidelines of appropriate standards and encourage students to take pride in their personal appearance. 
  • Knee socks are to be worn pulled up. 
  • Hair, over the collar or longer, is expected to be tied back.  Hair must be away from the face.  Unnatural colour or style, or extreme colouring or streaks and patches of colour, are not permitted. 
  • Hair Styling Products are not permitted. 
  • Make-up is not permitted, nail polish, if worn should be
    colourless. 
  • Jewellery: only a wristwatch may be worn. Students with
    pierced ears may wear one small plain stud in each ear
    lobe. 
  • Sunhats: will be worn during terms 1 and 4 when outside for
    extended periods. 
  • Scarves are not part of our uniform. 
  • School uniform (rather than sports uniform) is to be worn to
    and from school. 
  • Our school has a smart uniform and we expect it to be worn
    correctly, with pride.

 

Girls Uniform:
Skirt: A poly/wool lined McDonald tartan A-line skirt with two kick pleats in the front and one in the centre back. This skirt is to be worn below the knee.
Blouse: A poly/cotton tailored short-sleeved button through blouse with collar, open darts and hemline, worn over skirt. This blouse is trimmed with the McDonald tartan on the sleeves and collar. The Somerville logo is on the upper left hand side.
Cardigan: A wool/nylon full front zip long sleeved green cardigan with a thin red stripe around the wrist and lower band of cardigan. This cardigan can be worn open, fully or partially zipped. The Somerville logo is on the upper left hand side.
Footwear: For summer plain black or brown flat sandals.
  For winter long knee length white socks/navy tights, black leather lace up shoes.  Girls are also allowed to wear shoes with a buckle or velcro strap, no elastic straps - (flat/pump/slip-on or ballet style shoes are not permitted).
All knee length socks are expected to be worn pulled up.
   
Boys Uniform:
Shorts: Poly/wool royal blue knee length lined shorts.
Shirt: A poly/cotton light green button through shortsleeved shirt with the Somerville logo on the left hand pocket.
Jumper: A wool/nylon v-necked long-sleeved green jumper, with red stripe trim around the collar and Somerville logo on the upper left chest.
Footwear: For summer - plain black or brown flat sandals.
  For winter - long navy knee length socks with red and green stripe at top. Black leather lace up school shoes (sports styles and skate shoes are not permitted). All knee length socks are expected to be worn pulled up.
   
Sports Uniform (Unisex)
Top: A polyester navy V-necked top, with green band and red trim along front, Somerville logo on the upper left hand side.
Shorts: Gathered green knee length polyester shorts.
   
Hat (Unisex)
  A navy blue bucket hat with red trim on the brim, the Somerville logo is centre front. The hat is to be worn in terms 1 and 4 and when outside for extended periods.
   
Optional: (Worn outdoors only)
 

Jacket: Taslon sport style in school colours may be ordered from the school office.  Please note, we place one bulk order per year at the end of Term One.

Scarf: Polar fleece scarf in school colours may be ordered from the school office in Term One each year.
