SIS Supports World Vision and the 40hr. Famine
From 7-9 June 2013, hundreds of Somerville Students will be going 'hard out for the hungry'. Thanks to all the parents who are supporting their children who are 'giving up' something (food, technology, and even talking!, to name few) over the weekend of 7-9 June and seeking sponsorship for this. More details can be found at http://www.worldvision.org.nz/. Students have brought home a letter detailing this. Students can also sign up through the website. Last year we raised over $25,000...how much can we raise for those less fortunate this year?
Somerville Intermediate Library Book Club
Each Thursday at lunchtime; students who love reading, having fun and making new friends, flock to the library to enjoy a Book Club meeting. This enthusiastic group of over thirty year 7 and 8 pupils take turns introducing each other to books that they have read and enjoyed. In addition to sharing passages from the book and offering a quick synopsis of the story, they challenge each other in quizzes, scavenger hunts, role plays and drawing competitions. This week Charlotte Leigh, Winnie Cao and Suzie Chan discussed 'Beautiful Creatures', written by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. As a part of their presentation students were challenged to create and illustrate a character with magical powers. Congratulations to Sai Penneru who won the competition with this drawing.
Patrica Bernard @ Somerville Intermediate School
Author Patricia Bernard has been at Somerville Intermediate sharing her love of writing and reading. Writing tips and ideas were the focus of the syndicate wide sessions. Thanks Patricia! The 950 aspiring writers at Somerville are now more motivated than ever to be 'the best writers they can be'.
