Music

 

Year 7:

Maximum of ten lessons (1 hour 20 minutes each) over a five week period.
Students have the opportunity to experience music within all four strands of the arts curriculum.
Year 7 music students will learn to:

  • write music in treble/bass clef
  • identify key elements of music from aural examples
  • use Garage Band and other available technology effectively to compose, edit and record  music
  • play a variety of ukulele songs individually and part of a group
  • experiment with body percussion as a performance opportunity

Main key competency focus:

participating and contributing(group work),
managing self(practical preparation),
languages/symbols/text(reading music)

Year 8:
Maximum of 15 lessons (1 hour 45 minutes each) over a term
Students have opportunity to experience music within all four strands of the arts curriculum.
Year 8 students learn to:
  • research and present panel discussion in class -  discussing the context, purpose, meaning
  • of a popular song (using Youtube as an effective resource)
  • learn to write effective song lyrics and set words to music
  • use Garage Band/Logic(CWEA)/iPod/Bluetooth devices/youtube/wikipages/sound systems as effective digital resources
  • play guitar, read guitar charts  (keyboard,guitar,bass are available for advanced musicians)

Main key competency focus:

participating and contributing(group work),
managing self(practical preparation and individual compositions),
languages/symbols/text(reading music).
