'The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.'
- Dr Seuss

Open from 8:30am - 3:15pm the Information Centre is staffed by our library team who provide a wide range of resources, information, activities and support for students and teachers.

At Somerville Intermediate the Library and Information Centre is just that, the centre of the school. The library is the hub of the school where children can read, play board, card games, access computers, and relax in a safe environment.  Organized lunchtime activities include competitions and a book club.

Our mission is to provide quality resources and information support services for the school community, and to develop life-long learning skills and foster recreational reading.

Our school Library and Information Centre plays a pivotal role in meeting the school’s educational goals. It supports and enriches the learning experiences of every child by catering for both curriculum and recreational needs.

Our up-to-date resources support the school curriculum, they reflect our bi-cultural heritage, the interests of our students and our diverse community, they extend knowledge beyond our own social and cultural environment.

The ability to access this information is defined as ‘information literacy’ and is the key to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

Information literacy is the foundation of our library’s vision encouraging our students to be seekers and users of information and ideas. By integrating classroom objectives and collaborating with classroom teachers we hope to create an environment that meets the information needs of all teachers and students.
